Call to Worship:…………“Hosanna”……………..KIDS ROC

Opening Prayer:…………………………………………… Ian D.
Hosanna!
Hosanna!
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of God!
Blessed are we, for we have been created by that
same God.
Blessed is the sound of our voices, lifted up in praise.
Blessed are the hands that clap and strum and pluck, joining together in one glorious Hosanna.
Blessed are the bodies that move and wave and march and dance in a tapestry of motion, embodying your love.
Blessed is the breath that enlivens us, animates us, and sustains us in singing our ceaseless praise to you, O God.
Hosanna!
Hosanna! Amen. (Laura Jaquith Bartlett)

Opening Hymns…………“Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”…….#278 UMH
Words: Jeanette Threlfall, 1873 Music: Gesangbuch der
H.W. k. Hofkapelle, 1784: harm. by W.H Monk, 1868

1. Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang;
through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang.
To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to his breast,
the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best.

2. From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd,
the victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud.
The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state,
nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait.

3. ”Hosanna in the highest!” that ancient song we sing,
for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King.
O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice,
and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice!

All Glory, Laud and Honor#280 UMH
Words: Theodulph of Orleans, 8-9th cent.
Music: Melchior Teschner, 1615; harm. by W.H. Monk, 1861

Refrain:
All glory, laud, and honor, to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.

1. Thou are the King of Israel, thou David’s royal Son,
who in the Lord’s name comest, the King and Blessed One.

2. The company of angels are praising thee on high,
and we with all creation in chorus make reply.

3. The people of the Hebrews with palms before thee went;
our prayer and praise and anthems before thee we present.

4. To thee, before thy passion, they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.

5. Thou didst accept their praises; accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest, thou good and gracious King.

Anthem…..“What Wondrous Love Is This?”…..Handbell Choir
Arr. by Dondra K. Tucker ASCAP ©2020 by Sondra Tucker

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul! What
wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to
bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, to
bear the dreadful curse for my soul.

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul! What
wondrous love is this, that caused the Lord of life to
lay aside his crown for my soul, for my soul, to
lay aside his crown for my soul.

Gospel Lesson:…………..Matthew 21:1-11……….Ian D.
When Jesus and his disciples had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, `The Lord needs them.’ And he will send them immediately.” This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,
“Tell the daughter of Zion,
Look, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
 Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Hymn of Preparation:……..“Lamb of God#2113 TFWS
Words and Music: Twila Paris © 1985 Straightway Music/
Mountain Spring Music

1. Your only Son, no sin to hide, but you have sent
him from your side, to walk upon this guilty sod,
and to become the Lamb of God.

2. Your gift of love they crucified they laughed and
scorned him as he died, the humble king they named
a fraud and sacrificed the Lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy
Lamb of God! O wash me in his precious blood my
Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

3. I was so lost I should have died, but you have
brought me to your side, to be led by your staff and
rod, and to be called a lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy
Lamb of God! O wash me in his precious blood my
Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

Sermon:…………………………………………………….Pastor Liz

An Order of Farewell to Church Members:

Congregational Response:
We feel sorrow in your leaving,
Yet we rejoice with you in anticipation of this new phase of your life.
We will miss your love and support,
yet we know you will add much to the lives
of those who will be your new church family,
as you have added much to our lives.

Congregation and pastor:
We will pray for you and for the whole family of God.

Closing Hymn:…“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”
#298 UMH
Words: Isaac Watts, 1707 Music: Anon,; arr. By Edward Miller, 1790

1. When I survey the wondrous cross on which the
Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.

2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the
death of Christ, my God; all the vain things that
charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood.

3. See, from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow
and love flow mingled down. Did e’er such love and
sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4. Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were
an offering far too small; love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all.
