Coming of the Light:
Greetings:………………………………………Pastor Liz
Announcements:…………………………………Pastor Liz
Call to Worship:………………………………….Elizabeth B.
Already overburdened with the demands
of work and leisure, family and friends,
we come to this place in search of rest.
May we find here the strength to work for justice.
Forgiveness is elusive and anger is justified,
too often we settle for the sweet fleeting fruit of revenge.
May we find here the patience to embody mercy.
Deluded by the world in which we live
receiving power and prestige and money as just reward
missing the Spirit’s call to a life grounded in humble service.
May we find here the wisdom to walk in the Spirit.
Opening Prayer:……………………………………Elizabeth B.
Dear Creator God,
In comparison with this big world, the human heart is only a small thing. Though the world is so large, it is utterly unable to satisfy this tiny heart. The ever-growing soul and its capacity can be satisfied only in the infinite God. As water is restless until it reaches its level, so the soul has not peace until it rests in God.
Amen. Sundar Singh, India
Opening Hymns:…“For This Land in All Its Wonder”
Sung to Tune: (“God of Grace and God of Glory”)#577 UMH
Words: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette
1. For this land in all its wonder, for each city, farm and town,
for each mountain filled with splendor, for each place where love is found,
for the freedoms we enjoy here,
God, may thanks to you abound! God, may thanks to you abound!
2. For your peace and love unending, breaking barriers that divide;
for the joy of cultures blending as we live here side by side;
God, we thank you and we pray now:
May we all be unified! May we all be unified!
3. For your hand to lead and guide us, for your work in history,
for your vision born inside us of a just society,
God, we thank you and we pray now:
May this vision come to be! May this vision come to be!
4. May we be a nation seeking ways that are both wise and fair,
may our living and our speaking serve your purpose everywhere.
may we follow where you lead us;
God, this is our hope and prayer! God, this is our hope and prayer!
“This is My Song” # 437 UMH
Words by Lloyd Stone and Georgia Harkness
Music by Jean Sibelius, arrangement from The Hymnal
© 1934, 1962, 1964 Lorenz Publishing Co.
Arr © 1933, renewed 1961 Presbyterian Board of Christian Education
1. This is my song, O God of all the nations,
a song of peace for lands afar and mine.
This is my home, the country where my heart is;
here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine;
but other hearts in other lands are beating
with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.
2. My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean,
and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine;
but other lands have sunlight too, and clover,
and skies are everywhere as blue as mine.
O hear my song, thou God of all nations,
a song of peace for their land and for mine.
3. This is my prayer, O Lord of all earth’s kingdoms:
Thy kingdom come; on earth Thy will be done.
Let Christ be lifted up till all shall serve him,
and hearts united learn to live as one.
O hear my prayer, thou God of all the nations;
myself I give thee; let thy will be done.

Gospel Lesson:…….…“Matthew 11:25-30”……….Elizabeth B.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Hymn of Preparation: “Blessed Quietness” #2142 TFWS
Words: Manie P. Ferguson Music: W.S. Marshall
Arr. © 1981 J. Jefferson Cleveland
1. Joys are flowing like a river, since the
Comforter has come; Christ abides
with us forever, makes the trusting heart a home.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy
quietness, what assurance in my
soul. On the stormy sea, Jesus
speaks to me, and the billows cease to roll.
2. Bringing life and health and gladness all a
round, this heavenly Guest banished
unbelief and sadness, changed our weariness to rest.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy
quietness, what assurance in my
soul. On the stormy sea, Jesus
speaks to me, and the billows cease to roll.
3. Like the rain that falls from heaven, like the
Sunlight from the sky, so the
Spirit, too, is given, coming on us from on high.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy
quietness, what assurance in my
soul. On the stormy sea, Jesus
speaks to me, and the billows cease to roll.
4. See, a fruitful field is growing, blessed
Fruit of righteousness; and the
Steams of life are flowing in the lonely wilderness.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy
quietness, what assurance in my
soul. On the stormy sea, Jesus
speaks to me, and the billows cease to roll.
5. What a wonderful salvation, when we
always see Christ’s face, what a
perfect habitation, what a quiet resting place.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy
quietness, what assurance in my
soul. On the stormy sea, Jesus
speaks to me, and the billows cease to roll.

CONFESSION & PARDON
Pastor Liz: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
All pray in silence.
Pastor Liz: Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: Glory to God. Amen.
THE PEACE
Let us offer one another signs of reconciliation and love.
All, including the pastor, exchange signs and words of God’s peace by crossing hands, wave to one another due to social distancing guidelines.
Pastor Liz: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Pastor Liz: Lift up your hearts. The pastor may lift hands and keep them raised.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Pastor Liz: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor Liz: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Pastor Liz: In union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pastor Liz: All honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
All: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Closing Hymn: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” #400 UMH
Words: Robert Robinson, 1758 Music: Wyeth’s Repository of Sacred Music,
Part Second, 1813
1. Come, thou Fount of every blessing tune my heart to
sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call of songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious
sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above, Praise the mount! I’m
fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love.
2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by thy
help I’m come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a
stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue
Me for danger, interposed his precious blood.
3. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained
to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I
feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here’s my heart, O
take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.
